In der Einführung des Buches steht, dass es sich um die 4. Ausgabe handelt. Die 1.–3.Ausgaben sind jedoch nicht greifbar. Eventuell handelt es sich um eine freie Wiedergabe der School of Arts von Dossie, inhaltliche Parallelen sind augenscheinlich, jedoch auch stark in der kompilatorischen Tradition spätmittelalterlicher Kunstbücher. Das Buch behandelt die Kunst des Firnissens, hauptsächlich in japanischer Manier ( Japanning ), mit Angabe von Rezepten; weiter Färben von Holz, Horn, Elfenbein, Leder, Papier, Pergament und Nennung der verwendeten Farbmittel; Flecken entfernen aus Seide, Stoffen, Leinen, Wolle und viele andere wertvolle Künste. |
